American Food

Simple, cold, greasy, and unhealthy are all the adjectives that I can think of when describing American food. Hamburger, hamburger, hamburger, and hamburger are another four nouns that I can come up with when thinking of American food. As a Taiwanese, I am so proud of my country's food, and yes, I can surely tell you how different  the food is between America and Taiwan.

Take breakfast in these two countries for example, American tend to eat cold food whereas Taiwanese like to eat hot dishes. People here like to eat sandwich, toast, and salad for breakfast. From a traditional Taiwanese perspective, those "food" are more like side dishes or light refreshments rather than a real "meal." Taiwanese like hot dishes for breakfast such as pork porridge with egg, noodle with soup or a bowl of rice with few side dishes. It is because the old generation thinks hot dishes can warm our stomach thus enabling better blood circulation.

Another amazing difference is that the food variety in my country is far multiple than that in America. Food choices here are less because American doesn't have as many cooking styles as Taiwanese does. Take beef for example, we have fried beef rice, beef noodle, beef stew, steamed beef  and boil beef soup in Taiwan. However, for American food here, all I can think about are just steak and hamburger's beef.

Well, I can accept the cold, greasy, and unhealthy food sometimes, but definitely not everyday. Thank god I am living in a city where English is actually a second language here, I can always grab any kinds of Taiwanese food whenever I feel like it.

  1. Even coming to US almost a year, I still want to eat Taiwanese food every day!!

  2. I prefer hot food and hot water,too. I can't drink cold water which makes my stomach hurts.

  3. Chinese food is similar with Taiwanese food.
